An acquisition of acreage and production in the Anadarko Basin last spring is paying off for Midstates Petroleum Co. Inc., according to the company’s operations update released Wednesday. The news cheered investors, who lifted Midstates shares more than 14% Wednesday.

Vancouver, BC-based East West Petroleum Corp., an independent exploration/production (E&P) company, said Monday it has expanded its position in the southern San Joaquin Basin, about 20 miles south of Bakersfield, CA. It is one of three separate areas in the region where the company is active, including part of the Monterey Shale play.

Chevron U.S.A. Inc.’s lease with a Marcellus Shale landowner in Fayette County, PA, allows the producer to construct an 11-acre freshwater impoundment to assist in drilling for natural gas, the Pennsylvania Superior Court has ruled.

Construction is expected to begin “shortly” on the 550-acre Permian Rail Park in Texas about six miles west of Big Spring and 30 miles east of Midland, developers said.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. has carved out a 94,000-acre tract in Ohio’s Stark and Portage counties to sell, land that represents roughly one-tenth of its leasehold in the Utica/Point Pleasant Shale.

EV Energy Partners LP (EVEP) said that although it has received offers for its acreage in the Utica Shale, the company does not expect to announce an agreement before the end of the year.
