Atmos Energy Corp. said Friday it is buying the natural gas assets of privately held ComFurT Gas Inc. for $1.95 million in cash. ComFurT serves 1,800 gas customers in Buena Vista, CO, where it is headquartered.

ComFurT also serves 2,000 propane customers, but Dallas-based Atmos is only purchasing the gas assets, including its 49-mile gas distribution system. The propane segment will continue to be owned and operated by ComFurT.

The Atmos utility system serves 60 communities throughout the state, including ComFurT’s neighbors in Gunnison, Crested Butte, Salida and Canon City, CO. Its Colorado-Kansas Division, based in Denver, serves approximately 104,000 natural gas utility customers in Colorado and 113,000 customers in Kansas.

The acquisition, which is subject to approval by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, is expected to be completed within six to nine months.
