KeySpan Energy Canada last week acquired all of Westcoast Capital Corp.’s interests in the Wilson Creek Express Pipeline and the Crystal Pipeline, which KeySpan said will complement its existing natural gas gathering and processing infrastructure. The pipelines gather sour gas from areas to the west and north of the KeySpan-operated Rimbey Gas Plant in Alberta.

The Wilson Creek Express Pipeline is an 8-inch diameter sour gas pipe that extends 43 kilometers west of the plant, with a current capacity of about 50 MMcf/d. The Crystal pipeline is a 6-inch diameter sour gas pipeline that reaches 38 kilometers north of the Rimbey plant, with a capacity of about 20 MMcf/d. Calpine Canada operates both lines. No financial details were disclosed.

The Rimbey plant has 422 MMcf/d of processing capacity, with natural gas liquids extraction and fractionation capabilities, and is operated by KeySpan. It was upgraded this year to increase sulfur recovery at a cost of C$19 million.
