New York State Electric and Gas’ indirect subsidiary XENERGYInc. has won a contract to provide gas and power supply procurementand management services for 3,000 state facilities of theCommonwealth of Massachusetts. The first phase of the three-phasecontract begins immediately, and is worth almost $500,000. Thecommonwealth spends $80 million/year on gas and electricity for allits facilities.

XENERGY will work under the direction of the state’s EnergyProcurement Management Team, which is working to aggregate stateand municipal facilities into a single gas and electric purchasinggroup. This contract includes service to facilities in 351 citiesand towns. “This project is crucial to achieve our goal of reducingthe operating costs of the Commonwealth,” said Philmore AndersonIII, the Commonwealth’s purchasing agent.

XENERGY said among other things the project will involveanalyzing energy usage patterns, designing and building a centralcomputer system to maintain the energy and facility data, anddeveloping a long-range strategic energy plan to guide procurement.
