TXU Corp. announced the formation of a new corporate structure with separate retail and wholesale divisions on Wednesday and named two new executives to lead the new units. James A. Burke, formerly with Gexa Energy, Reliant and Coca-Cola, was named chairman and CEO of TXU Energy, the retail business, and Michael T. McCall, former president of TXU Gas, was named chairman and CEO of TXU Wholesale, which will optimize the wholesale energy purchases for the company’s power generation and retail operations.

The appointments follow former TXU Energy Chairman and CEO Paul O’Malley’s decision to resign in mid July and return to Australia with his family.

TXU Corp. John C. Wilder said the decision to split the operations will enable the company to better focus on the distinct retail and wholesale markets, “resulting in enhanced customer service, increased efficiency, and stronger results.”

“TXU is elevating two great leaders to head these critical areas of our competitive businesses. Both Jim and Mike bring a unique set of experiences,” said Wilder, citing Burke’s commitment to customer service and knowledge of the retail market and McCall’s expertise in the wholesale electricity business and understanding of the Texas market.

“Texas has the most dynamic electricity market in North America, and vibrant competition drives companies to constantly look for opportunities to gain a competitive edge,” said Burke. “This new organizational structure is one more step that will enable us to deliver superior customer service and other differentiated products and pricing plans.”

Over the past year, McCall has served as senior vice president of Environmental, Fuels and Safety, overseeing TXU’s lignite mining operations, environmental advocacy, and safety programs. In the past, he served as the president of TXU Gas, and as a leader of TXU’s team that participated in the development of Senate Bill 7, the law that created the competitive Texas electric market and is widely considered as a model of electricity deregulation.

TXU Energy provides electricity and related services to more than 2.4 million competitive electricity customers in Texas. TXU Power has over 18,300 MW of generation in Texas, including 2,300 MW of nuclear and 5,837 MW of lignite/coal-fired generation capacity. TXU Corp.’s regulated segment, TXU Electric Delivery, provides power to three million electric delivery points over more than 100,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines.
