Transportation Notes

After advising on its bulletin board Monday that it wasmonitoring conditions for the necessity of an OFO, Florida GasTransmission issued an Overage Alert Day notice Tuesday due to highmarket-area demand. The notice applies to the system east ofStation 12 (Santa Rosa County in the Florida Panhandle) and carriesa 4% tolerance for negative daily imbalances. The pipeline willdecide this morning whether to extend the notice through today’sgas day.

Altra Energy Technologies said it set new records for physicallydelivered natural gas and natural gas swaps for the thirdconsecutive month in a row on Aug. 31. On that day, 146 Bcf ofdelivered gas and 135 Bcf of swaps were traded. The previous highwas 132 Bcf for natural gas and 133 Bcf for swaps. David Hanson,Altra’s vice president of gas marketing said greater liquidity andefficiency in the system played a part in increasing transactionintensity.

Sonat Closing Offices, Affecting 160 Employees

Sonat Exploration Co. of Houston, a wholly owned subsidiary ofSonat Inc. announced that it will close its Tyler, TX, and OklahomaCity offices on or shortly after Oct. 31. The action is part of aplan to improve the efficiency of the company’s exploration andproduction business. Following the office closures, SonatExploration will conduct all operations out of its main office inHouston.

ANR notified interruptible storage customers under the DDS andMBS rate schedules that they will be limited to zero net injectionsduring the Sept. 1-Oct. 31 period. Injections will be allowed intoDDS/MBS accounts only if the customer withdraws an equal or greateramount of gas prior to Nov. 1.

After warning shippers Wednesday that one was possible, FloridaGas Transmission issued an Overage Alert Day notice for Thursday’sgas day due to high market-area demand. The notice has a 6%tolerance for daily negative imbalances and covers the system eastof Station 12 (Santa Rosa County in the Florida Panhandle). Thepipeline will re-evaluate conditions this morning before decidingwhether to extend the notice.

Sonat declared a force majeure in connection with maintenancethat began Monday at its No.2 delivery point into East TennesseeNatural Gas and will last for about three weeks. No nominationswill be scheduled at the point during this project, Sonat said.

Pacific Gas & Electric continued a high-inventory OFO thatbegan Saturday (see Daily GPI, Aug. 16)through Monday, tightening an initial tolerance of 5% for positivedaily imbalances to 2% Sunday and then loosening it again to 5%Monday. No OFO is in effect today.

Dynegy announced that Stephen W. Bergstrom has been namedpresident and chief operating officer of Dynegy Inc. Bergstrom wasformerly president and chief operating officer of Dynegy Marketingand Trade and senior vice president of Dynegy Inc. He has served asa member of Dynegy’s board of directors since 1995.

For the first time in the last eight quarters, Chesapeake EnergyCorp. of Oklahoma City, OK, turned a profit. The improvement was inspite of decreased production.

Ameren to Transfer Generation Plants

AmerenCIPS, a subsidiary of Ameren Corp., filed with theIllinois Commerce Commission (ICC) a notice that it intends totransfer AmerenCIPS’ Illinois generating facilities and relatedpersonnel to a new non-regulated subsidiary. Ameren is a registeredholding company under the Public Utility Holding Company Act of1935 (PUHCA) and is the parent of the utility operatingsubsidiaries, AmerenCIPS and AmerenUE.
