NextEra Energy Resources LLC (NER), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc., said one of its subsidiaries has agreed to sell its interest in four natural gas power plants to an LS Power affiliate for $1.05 billion. The facilities are the 507 MW Blythe Energy Center in Blythe, CA; the 668 MW Calhoun Energy Center in Eastaboga, AL; the 98 MW Cherokee Energy Center in Gaffney, SC; and the 879 MW Doswell Energy Center in Ashland, VA. An NER affiliate will initially continue to operate the facilities through service contracts. Closing is expected during 4Q2011, pending approval from regulators and third parties.

Atlas Pipeline Partners LP (APL) has signed agreements with DCP NGL Services LLC (DCP), a subsidiary of DCP Midstream LLC, to sell its natural gas liquids (NGL) production from each of APL’s processing facilities in Oklahoma and Texas. The agreements are based on Mont Belvieu NGL pricing and each has a term of 15 years, which will become effective at various times upon expiration of APL’s existing NGL sales agreements, the company said. The agreements provide long-term support for APL’s previously announced expansions at its WestTX, WestOK and Velma systems (see Daily GPI, May 16). The arrangements also allow for the sale of additional NGLs from the West Texas plants on an interim basis.

In Response to Oil Shale Growth, Shell Considers Pipe Reversal

With oil production from domestic shale plays growing, a Royal Dutch Shell plc subsidiary is considering a plan to reverse flows on its Houma-to-Houston (Ho-Ho) system, which now runs from Houma, LA, to oil processing facilities east of Houston. Reversing the 22-inch diameter pipeline would enable more than 300,000 b/d of crude to be distributed across the Gulf Coast region, the company said.

Southern Union-BG Group Venture Gets LNG Export OK

A joint venture formed by Houston-based Southern Union and BG LNG Services LLC, a subsidiary of BG Group plc — Lake Charles Exports LLC — has received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries with which the United States has a free trade agreement (FTA).

Dominion Proceeds with West Virginia Midstream Facility

A natural gas processing and fractionation plant, which is being built along the Ohio River in Natrium, WV, to serve producers in the Marcellus and Utica shales, is 90% contracted and should be in service by the end of 2012, Dominion said Thursday.

PennFuture Sues Ultra Over NOx Emissions

Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future, also known as PennFuture, has filed a lawsuit against an Ultra Petroleum subsidiary, alleging that some of the company’s facilities in the Marcellus Shale violate the federal Clean Air Act and state regulations.
