Pennsylvania Families Allege Water Contamination, Conspiracy

Three families in western Pennsylvania have filed a lawsuit against 17 defendants, including an operator for Range Resources Corp. and two independent water testing labs, alleging that a drilling and impoundment site caused health problems. The plaintiffs also accused Range and the labs of conspiring to hide evidence of drinking water contamination.

UGI Bringing Marcellus Gas to Pennsylvania Customers

Natural gas produced from Marcellus Shale wells owned by Shell Upstream America and Ultra Petroleum Corp. has begun flowing through a UGI Central Penn Gas Inc. supply pipeline that feeds some 15,000 customers in Tioga, Bradford and Potter counties in Pennsylvania, according to the UGI Utilities Inc. subsidiary.

Appeals Court Tosses Drilling Ban in Allegheny Forest

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) can’t refuse to give operators permission to drill in the Allegheny National Forest while it conducts an environmental impact study there.

W&T Offshore Inc. has closed its $36.7 million acquisition of Shell Offshore Inc.’s 64.3% interest in the Fairway Field and the associated Yellowhammer gas processing plant in Alabama with an effective date of Sept. 1, 2010. Current production net to W&T in the Fairway Field is about 19.5 MMcf/d of natural gas and 1,200 b/d of natural gas liquids; W&T has estimated proved reserves of 39.4 Bcf and 2.5 million bbl, or 54.5 Bcfe. The transaction completes a deal for Gulf of Mexico deepwater producing fields announced last year (see Daily GPI, Nov. 8, 2010).

Talisman-Sasol Partnership Moves Forward with GTL Feasibility Study

The technical portion of a feasibility study of a gas-to-liquids (GTL) project in Western Canada, which is under consideration by Talisman Energy Inc. and Sasol Ltd., is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of this year, according to the Foster Wheeler AG subsidiary that will perform the study.

Marathon Paying $3.5B to Grow Eagle Ford Stake

Marathon Oil Corp. has agreed to pay $3.5 billion to acquire the Eagle Ford Shale assets of Hilcorp Resources Holdings LP. Along with other transactions expected to close by the end of this year, Marathon’s Eagle Ford position is expected to more than double to 285,000 net acres, the company said.
