Chevron, the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and Schlumberger havebecome equal partners in a new Houston-based company, OpenSpiritCorp., which will offer a standardized software infrastructure forthe energy industry. The initial framework was funded by OpenSpiritAlliance, a three-year-old collaboration of exploration andproduction companies and software vendors that studies ways tobetter develop, deliver and use E&P applications. OpenSpiritCorp.’s vendor-neutral and platform-independent applicationframework is expected to be available before the end of the year.Neil Buckley, former president of U.S. operations for Merak, adivision of GeoQuest, will serve as CEO. Coral Signs LNG Terminal Service Deal with CMS

CMS Trunkline LNG Co. announced an agreement with Shell Oil’s Coral Energy Resources yesterday, paving the way for the CMS subsidiary to provide firm terminal service for 13 of Coral’s LNG cargoes in 2000 and 2001. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The first cargo is scheduled for delivery in January 2000.

Oklahoma producers are eyeing the pending purchase of Shellsubsidiary Transok by OGE Energy subsidiary Enogex with cautiouslyoptimistic eyes. While the sale would double Enogex’s pipelineholdings, it’s not clear to Oklahoma market participants whateffect the deal will have on competition.

Mississippi Canyon Gas Pipeline last week won FERC’s blessingfor a firm capacity expansion to 800 MMcf/d from 600 MMcf/d.Mississippi Canyon — formerly Shell Gas Pipeline — operates a45-mile dual-phase line from the West Delta Block 143 “A” platformon the Outer Continental Shelf offshore Louisiana to terminus nearthe Venice Gas Plant in Plaquemines Parish onshore in Louisiana.The capacity increase is to come from establishing maximum receiptand delivery point pressures and installation of additionalmetering facilities on the pipeline’s existing system at the Veniceplant delivery point.

Mississippi Canyon – formerly Shell Gas Pipeline -operates a 45-mile dual-phase line from the West Delta Block 143″A” platform on the Outer Continental Shelf offshore Louisiana toterminus near the Venice Gas Plant in Plaquemines Parish onshore inLouisiana. The capacity increase is to come from establishingmaximum receipt and delivery point pressures and installation ofadditional metering facilities on the pipeline’s existing system atthe Venice plant delivery point.

Chevron, Partners Break Deep-Water Record

Chevron U.S.A. Production and its joint-venture partners – ShellDeepwater Development, EEX Corp. and Enterprise Oil Gulf of Mexico- set a new water-depth world record of 7,718 feet as they begandrilling their initial exploratory test well in the Gulf ofMexico’s Atwater Valley Block 118, about 175 miles southeast of NewOrleans. The Chevron-led team anticipates the well, designatedAtwater Valley 118 #1, will reach target depth of 15,471 feet belowthe seabed in the fourth quarter of this year. The companies areusing the fabled Glomar Explorer drill ship – initially built forU.S. intelligence work – owned by Global Marine to drill the well.Chevron and Texaco plan to alternate into the operator position asthey go forward with plans to drill 20 deepwater wells in the Gulfof Mexico.
