Columbia Gas said Wednesday’s gas day will be deemed a “Critical Day” in Market Areas 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33 and 34. Based on forecasted markets, available facilities and capacity utilization, Columbia projected that all available capacity in those areas will be required to meet firm service obligations, and thus zero nonfirm capacity will be available. Shippers with primary firm or secondary priority rights will not be impacted.

Colorado to Set Drilling Permit Record Despite Price Downturn

Colorado revenues from oil and gas drilling this year are projected to be about $342 million, 19% more than last year’s record-setting $287 million, according to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. And the state is continuing to set records for oil and gas drilling activity, according to statistics compiled by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

BP Plans to Add 2,000 Employees to Houston Operations

BP America projected Friday that it could add 2,000 employees to its Houston-based operations on the city’s west side energy corridor, bringing its total number of employees in Houston to 8,000 in a major expansion planned for the next four years. The recent acquisition of more than 50 acres of land adjacent to BP’s Westlake campus solidified a three-phased growth plan, the company said.

Citing current and projected operational conditions, ANR told DDS and MBS customers Wednesday they will no longer be limited to their March 2 storage balances (see Daily GPI, March 6). ANR said it will allow interruptible injections and withdrawals subject to daily operational capacity, but will closely monitor daily DDS/MBS activity and balances throughout the injection season. If interruptible storage balances impact the operations of ANR’s storage fields, the pipeline plans to act as necessary, including ordering the withdrawal of all interruptible storage account balances with 45 days’ notice to customers.

Without actually issuing a Type 6 OFO, Southern Natural Gas said Friday that based on current receipts and projected deliveries, one was “too close to call” for long imbalances Saturday and Sunday. It noted that its tariff “provides that a Type 6 OFO can be implemented on four hours notice or less depending on the situation.”

Warm Weather Spurs Elkton Rate Cut in Maryland

Maryland LDC Elkton Gas’ latest rate filing, which took effect Feb. 1, will reduce purchased gas costs by 8%, saving average consumers a projected $17 in February.
