Maryland LDC Elkton Gas’ latest rate filing, which took effect Feb. 1, will reduce purchased gas costs by 8%, saving average consumers a projected $17 in February.

“We’re still facing record-high natural gas prices. However, thanks to the good fortune off warmer weather, our gas costs are moderating,” said Candy Davis, operations manager of Elkton, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based AGL Resources.

The average residential bill for February at rates in effect at the beginning of the year would have been $204.43. The new rates will lower the average bill to $187.22.

Elkton serves 5,800 residential and business gas customers on Maryland’s eastern shore.
