Proposed Tax Change Riles Canadian Energy Trusts

Canadian oil and gas royalty trusts took it on the chin in stock market trading Wednesday from a proposed Tax Fairness Plan announced Tuesday night that would ultimately (in 2011) subject them to corporate-level taxation.

Transportation Notes

The Hess Corp.-operated Sea Robin Processing Plant resumed processing operations Monday night after being shut down unexpectedly Friday (see Daily GPI, Aug. 21), Sea Robin Pipeline reported. The pipeline asked shippers to adjust flows and nominations as needed.

AK Lawmakers Approve New Tax as Special Session Ends

In the final hours of their second special session Alaska lawmakers Thursday night passed the biggest rewrite of the state’s oil and gas taxes in decades, giving Gov. Frank Murkowski the tax on net profits that he wanted but with a higher rate. Revision of the state’s oil and gas tax regime is a crucial step to moving forward with plans for a $20 billion gas pipeline to bring Alaska gas to the Lower 48. However, the gasline still is far from certain.

Northern Natural Gas said late Friday night it has discovered a leak on a supply line to the Redfield Storage facility. This decreased injection capabilities, Northern said, but at this time it does not anticipate any limits on firm injection service.

AK Senate Again Approves Profits Tax

Alaska’s Senate voted 15-4 Monday night to rewrite the state’s production taxes on oil and natural gas. It was the second time this year that the Senate has approved a rewrite, and the vote was the first of a legislative special session, which began May 10 (see Daily GPI, May 22).

Saying cold weather was forecasted to continue in Florida through Tuesday night and its linepack was lower, Florida Gas Transmission kept an Overage Alert Day issued Sunday for customers in its market area in effect through at least Tuesday, but loosened the tolerance for negative daily imbalances from Monday’s 15% to 20% Tuesday.
