A report released last week by the newly named Gas TechnologyInstitute (created by the merger of GRI and the Institute of GasTechnology) predicts that technological advances will increase theeconomic lower-48 resource base by 250 Tcf and Canadian recoverableresources by 125 Tcf.

GRI and IGT Form GTI

GRI and the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT) named theirrecently merged organizations the Gas Technology Institute (GTI)last week and formed a senior management team led by John F.Riordan, president and CEO. The research groups announced theirmerger in April, saying it was mainly an effort to reduceoverlapping dues paid by their members and to combine the variousstrengths of the two entities.

Duke Energy Gas Transmission has named Tom O’Connor, TheopolisHoleman, Dorothy Ables and Richard Kruse to new positions as seniorvice presidents. This new market-oriented executive team willreport to Robert B. Evans, president of Duke Energy GasTransmission, and will be responsible for the management of DukeEnergy’s interstate natural gas pipelines.

A Georgia bankruptcy court named Shell Energy Services thewinning bidder for Peachtree Natural Gas’ customers yesterday.Shell’s bid of $19.3 million beat out the only other companyinvolved in the bidding, Georgia Natural Gas Services.

Shell Named GA’s Supplier of Last Resort as Peachtree Stays Afloat

The maelstrom in Atlanta Gas Light’s deregulated gas poolcontinued last week as regulators scrambled to find a replacementsupplier of last resort when the utility concluded it was unable tohandle the role. After an urgent 24-hour RFP, the state’s PublicService Commission (GPSC) selected Shell Energy Services to performthe function through April 1.
