NewPower Named Supplier of Last Resort in GA

The NewPower Co. has been designated sole interim pooler for the Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) market by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) for a one-year term starting in July. The interim pool position is basically the supplier of last resort for the 1.3 million gas customers in the area. NewPower won the position over several other suppliers, including Scana and Georgia Natural Gas, after meeting certain criteria stated by the Public Service Commission.

Austin-based Southern Union Co. has named David W. Stevens as executive vice-president of utility operations and Dennis K. Morgan as executive vice-president of administration. The company said Stevens will be responsible for overseeing the company’s natural gas operating divisions: Southern Union Gas, Missouri Gas Energy, Atlantic Utilities, PG Energy, and New England. In addition, Stevens will oversee the customer service, engineering and gas supply departments. Stevens is currently the president of Southern Union Gas. Morgan will be responsible for overseeing a broad range of corporate administrative functions, including legal, human resources, risk, environmental matters, and corporate communications. Southern Union is an international energy distribution company serving nearly 1.6 million customers in Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Florida and Mexico.

Fluor Corporation and Duke Energy Corp. named Jeff Faulk president and CEO of Duke/Fluor Daniel, a joint venture of the two companies that provides global engineering, construction and operating services to fossil-fueled power generating facilities. Faulk comes to the partnership from Fluor Daniel, where he most recently served as senior vice president, operations for the Americas, within the energy & chemicals strategic business unit. Harvey Padewer, group president of Energy Services for Duke Energy, said the partnership is poised to emerge as the clear leader in fossil-fueled power generation under Faulk’s leadership. “Last year, Duke/Fluor Daniel was building one out of every 3 MW of natural gas-fired generation under construction in the U.S.,” Padewer said. “The industry is beginning to take serious notice of this partnership and its global project portfolio — that includes everything from combined cycle plants to innovative clean- burning coal technology.”

Hatches, who will join NIPSCO April 2,will oversee all natural gas and electric distribution operationsof the utility serving more than 700,000 natural gas customers and430,000 electric customers across the northern third of Indiana.Hatches also will serve as CEO of NiSource’s other Indiana naturalgas distribution companies, Northern Indiana Fuel and Light, andKokomo Gas and Fuel. He will oversee Dynegy Canada’smarketing and trading of natural gas, crude oil, natural gasliquids and electricity. Before joining Dynegy, Pope was a vicepresident at Enron. Prior to Enron, he was founder and president ofCanadian Gas Marketing, which was acquired by Enron in 1992.
