Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline said it signed a contractwith Enbridge Gas New Brunswick to jointly build a number offacilities required to serve the local distribution system in theprovince. Maritimes hopes to construct the facilities this year,depending on construction timelines and regulatory approvals. Itplans to apply soon for authorization from the National EnergyBoard to construct the seven custody transfer stations and the twosections of transmission pipeline. Maritimes will conduct a seriesof open houses in New Brunswick prior to submitting applications tothe National Energy Board. Meanwhile clearing activities continueon the Halifax Lateral Pipeline project. More than 80% of theclearing has been completed.

Pinnacle West Energy and Houston-based Reliant Energy PowerGeneration, Inc. announced a preliminary agreement last week tojointly develop power plant projects in the Southwest totaling morethan 2,500 MW of generation in Arizona and Nevada. A definitivedevelopment agreement on plant construction and operation isexpected to be signed within 120 days.

Pinnacle West Energy and Houston-based Reliant Energy PowerGeneration, Inc. announced yesterday an agreement to jointlydevelop power plant projects in the Southwest totaling more than2,500 MW of generation in Arizona and Nevada, Pinnacle West Energyannounced today.

The line would have a minimumcapacity of 250,000 Dth/d and would begin service in winter2001-2002.

With the opening of expanded natural gas storage anddeliverability last week at jointly owned Jackson Prairie in thesouthwest part of Washington state, interstate pipelines likeWilliams’ Northwest and Kern River are trying to develop more andbetter services to gas-fired electric generation plants which areexpected to proliferate across the U.S. landscape in the early 21stCentury.

With the opening of expanded gas storage and deliverability thisweek at jointly-owned Jackson Prairie in southwest Washingtonstate, interstate pipelines like Williams Northwest are trying todevelop better services for electric generation plants, which areexpected to multiply significantly in the coming years.

Two Alberta-based producers, Cabre Exploration and Jet Energy,jointly announced a merger last week, in which Cabre will acquireJet and its 43.9 Bcf of proven reserves. Cabre said it will mailits offer to Jet shareholders no later than Oct. 18.
