Leatherstocking Gas Co., a 50-50 joint venture between Corning Natural Gas Corp. and Mirabito Holdings Inc., recently broke ground on a natural gas distribution system in Susquehanna County, PA, the latest step in its “local gas for local people” effort to supply Marcellus Shale gas to customers living in the area.

Sabine Pass LNG Terminal Opens Door for Business

At a ceremony last Monday formally opening Cheniere Energy Inc.’s Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal and interconnecting Creole Trail Pipeline in Louisiana, Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman sharply criticized state officials who are opposing the development and construction of LNG facilities in other parts of the nation.

Total Opal Plant tailgate nominations to interconnecting pipelines (Northwest, Kern River and CIG) will be cut by 350,000-370,000 dekatherms today due to tie-in work being performed by the operator of the Jonah Field. In conjunction with the Jonah work, Williams Field Services has scheduled a tie-in to be completed by Thursday morning, but it is not expected to required any additional reductions in nominations.

CPUC Attorney: El Paso Not Out of the Woods Yet

The California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) still intends to press FERC for a finding of affiliate abuse and tariff violations in the El Paso Natural Gas pipeline case, said CPUC Attorney Harvey Morris (see NGI, March 5), despite El Paso Merchant Energy’s decision to turnback on May 31 most of the 1.2 Bcf/d of firm space it has held on its affiliated pipeline system.
