Potential Tropical Storm Poised to Enter the Gulf of Mexico

Natural gas pipelines on Destin Pipeline Co.’s system operated by BP Pipelines in the central and eastern Gulf of Mexico (GOM) were in phase 2 of their severe weather contingency plan with all nonessential personnel preparing for evacuation in preparation for what could be the first real tropical storm threat to U.S. energy interests this year, Destin said Wednesday.

Transportation Notes

Although Destin lifted Thursday morning a force majeure that it had declared two days earlier due to issues at an onshore liquids handling facility (see Daily GPI, Sept. 1), that afternoon it reported being unable to provide transportation services from its offshore receipt points due to the approach of a tropical depression (which became Tropical Storm Lee on Friday). Onshore receipt and delivery points were not affected.

Gulf South Pipeline will be performing compressor maintenance on the Destin compressor station unit beginning at 8:00 a.m. on May 25 and continuing for approximately 60 hours, but the pipeline does not anticipate any impact to shippers.

Transportation Notes

Destin reported reopening the valve on its export line at Main Pass 260 and was accepting Intraday 2 (cycle 4) nominations for Monday’s gas day. The pipeline had turned off the valve to offshore receipts upstream of Main Pass 260 at 3 p.m. Friday in preparation for the approach of Hurricane Dennis (see Daily GPI, July 11).

Transportation Notes

The Pascagoula (MS) Gas Plant has informed Destin Pipeline thattwo to three days of maintenance is tentatively planned to begin atthe plant on April 30 and it expected to require shutting in boththe plant and pipeline during that period. The two entities areworking together to minimize the duration of the shut-in, with theplant using last week’s downtime to initiate some of the workoriginally expected to occur during the April shut-in.
