Tensions eased in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Thursday, with shut-in numbers declining and workers preparing to head back to platforms, as Hermine, upgraded to hurricane status, made its long-awaited move toward the Florida coast.

With the Pascagoula Gas Plant (PGP) in Mississippi still shuttered following a fire late last month, Destin Pipeline has been slowly ramping up more takeaway from the Gulf of Mexico, with flows now at about 75% of pre-explosion levels, according to Genscape Inc.

Rerouting Gulf of Mexico subsea systems, including an assist by Williams, is offering alternative transit for most of the natural gas and liquids carried by Destin Pipeline that were shut in by the Pascagoula Gas Plant (PGP) explosion late last month.

Physical gas for delivery Friday gained ground even though most traders hunkered down and got their deals done prior to the 10:30 a.m. EDT release of storage figures by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Natural gas flow from the Gulf of Mexico that is hindered by the shuttered Pascagoula Gas Processing Plant has returned to the level of 305 MMcf/d, with offshore liquid issues “resolved and valve work completed,” Destin Pipeline said late Wednesday.

With the Pascagoula Gas Processing Plant (PGP) still closed on Tuesday, Destin said it continued to be limited by operational capacity to service all of its Gulf of Mexico receipt points that normally transport gas to the key Gulf Coast plant.

An investigation is continuing into the cause of an explosion late Monday that has shuttered an Enterprise Products Partners LP natural gas processing complex in Pascagoula, MS.

American Midstream Partners LP has acquired a 66.7% interest in the 100-mile Okeanos natural gas gathering system in the Gulf of Mexico from its general partner, part of bundle of deals in which it paid $225 million (see Daily GPI,April 26). The Denver-based partnership, financed by ArcLight Capital Partners LP, had said it purchased interests in offshore and onshore infrastructure, including the Destin gas pipeline, the Tri-States and Wilprise natural gas liquids pipelines. The Okeanos pipe, with 1 Bcf/d of total capacity, connects two platforms and one lateral, terminating at the Destin Main Pass 260 platform in Mississippi Canyon blocks. Enbridge Inc. is the minority interest holder.
