Prices Fall at All Points on Moderating Weather

Unified price movement returned to the cash market Thursday for only the second time in about two months. And like the trading date of June 8 (see Daily GPI, June 11), the direction was down. Dwindling cooling load in northern market areas and negative futures guidance from the previous day resulted in double-digit drops across the board.

Petal Holding Open Season for New Salt Cavern

Petal Gas Storage LLC is holding a nonbinding open season for 5 Bcf of firm capacity to be created through construction of a new salt cavern at its Petal, MS, facility. An in-service date is planned for the second quarter of 2010.

Prices Rebound in Most of the Cash Market

Rather improbably, since cooling demand remains moderately subpar for early July outside the western U.S. and a holiday flow date was involved, prices rose in most of the cash market Tuesday. A few points that were flat to down about 15 cents extended a recent trend of mixed price movement nearly every day.

Bill Barrett Corp. Sees Strong Production Growth But Lower Earnings

Despite “solid production growth” and the “highest daily production rates to date,” Bill Barrett Corp.’s net income for the first quarter was off by one-third from the first quarter in 2006, the company reported Tuesday. Company officials blamed the disparity on Rockies natural gas prices in the two periods.

BHP Says Labor, Equipment Hike Cost of Deepwater Atlantis Project

The operational start-up date of the deepwater Atlantis South field development in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) “remains under review,” but the ultimate costs for 44% stakeholder BHP Billiton Ltd. will be at least 50% higher, the company said Wednesday. The field, operated by majority stakeholder BP plc, had been expected to cost a total of $3.5 billion.

Kerr-McGee Assets Boost W&T Offshore 3Q Production

Houston-based W&T Offshore Inc. grew third-quarter production by 50% over the year-ago period and 32% sequentially from the second quarter. Year-to-date production is at an all-time high and projected to increase more than 50% next year. And seven of seven Gulf of Mexico (GOM) exploration wells were declared successes in the third quarter.
