The dismantling of former gas and power titan Aquila Inc. moved a step closer to completion Wednesday. Great Plains Energy Inc., the parent company of Kansas City Power & Light, received approval from its shareholders to issue common stock for its acquisition of Aquila.

BP Energy Co.’s ability to market natural gas in the western United States has improved with the completion of its acquisition of Salt Lake City-based marketer Wasatch Energy LLC. The acquisition was announced in December (see NGI, Dec. 25, 2006). The deal, for an undisclosed amount, gives BP Energy all of Wasatch’s natural gas business and assets, including commercial and industrial sales contracts and producer services contracts. Wasatch’s 42 employees also were offered the opportunity to transfer to BP Energy. Wasatch has a portfolio of 350,000 MMBtu/d of gas purchase, transportation and sales activity across 10 western states that serve about 500 commercial and industrial customers and 100 producers. Its sales offices are located in New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, and California.

Wyoming Interstate Co. reported completion of repairs late Thursday afternoon to a segment west of Cheyenne Station where a rupture had occurred on the previous Saturday (see Daily GPI, Nov. 14) and said it was fully available for service again.

Imperial Warns Mackenzie Pipe May Be Delayed Until 2012
At hearings in the territorial capital of Yellowknife, the Mackenzie Gas Project’s (MGP) senior partner, Imperial Oil, told the National Energy Board completion of the project could be postponed for a year until 2012. Despite another delay in the arctic pipeline project, natural gas supplies are growing on the “near frontier” of northeastern British Columbia, which is already connected to North American markets.

Tennessee said the completion date for installation of a pig launcher and receiver on the 334A-100 Line north of New York City has been delayed until July 3. The work, which requires the suspension of physical flow at the Con Ed White Plains meter and has seen several previous delays, most recently had been expected to wind up Tuesday, the pipeline said.
