An extended deadline for troubled Commerce Energy to close a deal selling most of its remaining gas and electric retail customer base to Universal Energy Group Ltd. (UEG) passed last Saturday without comment from the company.

The cash market had an abundance of supportive factors on which to base gains across the board Thursday: cold weather returning to northern market areas and continuing in the Rockies; developing cooling load from 80s highs in much of the South and Southwest; the previous day’s 35.9-cent spike by May futures; and Gulf Coast supply tightness as a result of the Independence Hub outage (see Daily GPI, April 10).

The contribution of exploration in 2007 to the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) deepwater’s reserve base was the lowest in the past decade, according to a new report by consultant Wood Mackenzie. Reserves found amounted to only 553 million boe — less than half the reserves found in 2006.

El Paso’s Proved Reserves Jump 18%

El Paso Corp. pumped up its production in 2007 and built its total natural gas-weighted proved reserves base to 3.1 Tcfe, the company said Wednesday.

XTO Builds Gas Shale Holdings in Multiple Transactions

XTO Energy Inc. is adding 35 MMcfe/d to its production base through a string of acquisitions in the Woodford, Fayetteville and Barnett shales. The company also announced last week it would no longer pursue a master limited partnership (MLP).

Several maintenance projects will cause these reductions in El Paso’s North Mainline capacity (from a base of 2,276 MMcf/d) through the end of the month: Oct. 20, 91 MMcf/d; Oct. 21, 20 MMcf/d; Oct. 22-24, 71 MMcf/d; Oct. 25-26, 104 MMcf/d; Oct. 27-28, 348 MMcf/d; Oct. 29, 245 MMcf/d; and Oct. 30-31, 270 MMcf/d. CO PUC Grants Xcel Rate Increase, Tweaks Decoupling Pilot

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved a settlement increasing Xcel Energy’s annual natural gas base rate revenue by $32.2 million, but it also is requiring the company to absorb some revenue loss due to declining customer usage.
