Canadian Government: Aboriginals Cannot Stop Viable (Mackenzie) Projects

Aboriginal and environmental dissenters have been served their clearest notice yet that they will not be allowed to stop the Mackenzie Gas Project if it presents a viable case. The Canadian government has the final say on projects and can trump recommendations of the Mackenzie project Joint Review Panel set up with federal, Aboriginal and provincial representatives, according to the latest federal pronouncement, backed by court decisions.

Lehman Brothers Predicts Canadian Gas Exports Will Rise 2.5% in ’04

High natural gas prices have allowed Canadian producers to drill smaller prospects and to target unconventional resources that used to be considered uneconomic, resulting in a reversal of the production declines last year. Analyst Thomas Driscoll of Lehman Brothers is predicting a 1.5% increase in Canadian natural gas production this year, “a vast improvement from the decline of nearly 3.5% experienced in 2003.”

Northern Natural: Higher System Pressure on ANR Will Deter Competition in Wisconsin

ANR Pipeline should not be allowed to significantly raise the pressure of its system at a Wisconsin interconnect with Northern Natural Gas when its West Leg looping and replacement project goes into service on Nov. 1, because it would prevent the lower-pressure Northern Natural system from delivering gas into ANR’s system, Northern Natural protested.
