Futures Plummet Nearly $1 As Hurricane Dean Heads West

With Hurricane Dean following a more westerly path than first expected, natural gas futures traders were ringing the sales register early and often in Sunday’s overnight Globex session and again during Monday’s regular trading session, peeling almost $1 worth of hurricane premium off the prompt-month contract. September futures reached a low of $6.035 on Monday before closing at $6.040, down a whopping 97 cents from Friday’s close.

ANR’s Attempt to Retain Revenues from Storage Gas Sale Protested

Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) kept an Overage Alert Day for market-area customers that was initiated Aug. 4 in place through Saturday, then allowed it to lapse Sunday before reinstating one Monday with 25% tolerance for negative daily imbalances. Highs in the mid to upper 90s were forecast for Florida Monday, FGT said.

Pacific Gas & Electric narrowed a systemwide high-inventory OFO issued for Saturday to a customer-specific one Sunday, then allowed it to expire Monday. However, PG&E issued a new systemwide Stage 2 high-inventory OFO for Tuesday, setting penalties of $1/Dth for exceeding a 5% tolerance on positive daily imbalances.
