Seeking to expand its presence in the Pennsylvania-NewJersey-Maryland market, PP&L’s marketing subsidiary, PP&LInc. agreed to a one-year gas services contract with the townshipof Easton, MD, earlier this week.

Under the agreement, PP&L Inc. will provide gas and managetransportation and storage for Easton Utilities, a municipallyowned and operated utility serving 8,700 gas customers andproviding electricity, cable television and Internet accessservices. PP&L already had a working relationship with theutility, as it had been supplying and managing Easton’s 60 MW ofwholesale power generation.

“These contracts make it much easier for the customer to get theenergy they need at a competitive price and allows them to focus oncore responsibilities rather than on the cumbersome task of energymanagement,” John Baileys, PP&L manager-fuel trading and supplysaid.

John Drexler, a spokesperson for PP&L, said the gas contactis the company’s first in Maryland. “It represents a significantexpansion from our other dealings. We have many electric agreementswith municipalities and we have electric contracts in Maryland, butthis is our first gas deal in the state, and we hope our presencegrows.”
