CMS Energy Corp. announced Norman J. Saari has been promoted to executive director of governmental and international affairs, with responsibility for managing the company’s Washington, DC governmental affairs office. Saari, 52, will succeed David G. Mengebier, who becomes senior vice president of governmental and public affairs effective Aug. 1, 2001, upon the retirement of John W. Clark. CMS said Saari had been executive director of state governmental affairs, heading up Consumers Energy’s Lansing, MI, governmental affairs office. In addition, Jacalyn H. Hadden, 45, has been promoted to director of state governmental affairs, succeeding Saari. Hadden had been state legislative representative in Lansing, reporting to Saari, since 1991.

San Jose, CA-based Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) announced on Tuesday the promotion of four staff members to senior vice president positions: Bruce Baxter, senior vice president of production; Darrell Bender, senior vice president of purchasing; Rudy Bergthold, senior vice president of engineering; and James Medefesser, senior vice president of energy solutions. All four new appointees have been with the company for at least seven years. “Cupertino Electric prides itself on its position as the leader in the delivery of premier power and infrastructure solutions within the technology industry,” said James S. Ryley, CEO. A total power and energy solutions business, the company claims it is one of the largest privately held electrical contracting companies in the United States, and the largest electrical contractor in Silicon Valley.
