One of New Fortress Energy Inc.’s (NFE) avenues to expand its LNG marketing opportunities in Europe could be closed after a proposed import project in southwestern Ireland was denied.

The An Bord Pleanála, Ireland’s independent planning authority, recently denied permission for NFE’s development application of the Shannon import project.

In the decision, authorities wrote that permitting the terminal would be in conflict with Ireland’s current state energy policies and “it would not be appropriate to permit or proceed with the development of any liquefied natural gas terminals in Ireland,” pending a review of the electricity and natural gas systems.
