The government of Morocco has invited bids to consider a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and associated infrastructure at Mohammedia Port near Casablanca, the Agence Nationale des Ports (ANP) said this month. 

Last November, Algeria canceled its long-term 1 billion cubic meters (Bcm)/year supply contract to Morocco via the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline because of political tensions between the two governments. 

Algeria’s annual pipeline exports met most of Morocco’s consumption, so the government is accelerating liquefied natural gas (LNG) development. Several LNG plans have been launched since 2014, with schemes for an onshore terminal and/or an FSRU at sites that include the ports of Nador, Kénitra, Jorf Lasfar and Mohammedia.
