Japanese LNG giant Inpex Corp. plans to resume development activities for its proposed Abadi LNG platform with Shell plc after submitting plans to add a carbon capture and storage (CCS) component to the Indonesian offshore project.

Inpex submitted a revised plan of development to Indonesian regulators that called for reducing all carbon dioxide emissions from gas production and exports from the Abadi gas field with CCS. If sanctioned, Inpex would operate the production and export hub in the Masela Block in the Abadi gas field as part of a joint venture with Shell a 35% equity partner.

The plan also kicks off a refocus as Inpex prepares the front-end engineering and design process and onsite activities.
