European Commission (EC) officials have called the bloc’s Aggregate EU joint natural gas purchasing platform a success after closing the second tender, but market participants and analysts are still calling for more information around contracts.

Out of the nearly 12 Bcm matched in the second tender, liquefied natural gas accounted for 5.5 Bcm and the remaining 6.4 Bcm designated for pipeline deliveries. The EC reported 25 bids were received by international suppliers. The European Union’s (EU) mandatory aggregate demand volume is 13 Bcm, or about 15% of the EU storage filling target.

EC Vice President Maros Sefcovic said earlier in the month that the performance of the platform had “exceeded expectations.”
