Atlanta Gas Light Co. has implemented a seasonal rate plan timedto roll out during its February 2001 billing cycle by its naturalgas marketers. The plan, approved by the Georgia Public ServiceCommission, would make billing follow traditional winter and summerusage patterns.

Until now, Atlanta Gas Light charged customers for distributionservices via its base charge, which it passed along to customers atthe same rate for every month. For customers, the new rates wouldresult in higher base charges in the winter and lower base chargesin the summer. Interstate pipeline transportation charges and thecommodity cost of natural gas would not be affected by the new ratedesign, according to Atlanta Gas Light.

“This is a result of the Georgia Public Service Commission andAtlanta Gas Light working together to respond to customer concernsabout high gas bills during the summer,” said Clayton Preble, senior vice president of external affairs at AGL Resources, parentcompany of Atlanta Gas Light.

As part of the transition, each residential customer willreceive a $14 a month refund from the Universal Service Fund inFebruary and March 2001. Also, each customer with a senior citizendiscount would receive another $10 refund for the first threemonths of 2001.
