European natural gas prices inched higher Monday as the threat of a broader conflict in the Middle East offset a warmer forecast and ample supplies on the continent.

The December Title Transfer Facility (TTF) contract added about a nickel and again finished above $17/MMBtu. TTF is about 30% higher than it was before Israel declared war on Hamas earlier this month. The contract rebounded from a slight decline last week.

The market remains on edge over fears that the war in Israel could spill over and embroil other countries in the region. Attacks in Iraq and Syria, along with clashes between Israel and Hezbollah fighters near Lebanon, have ratcheted up tensions in the region and could threaten other energy supplies.
