Williams’ Transcontinental Gas Pipeline (Transco) filed to amend a previously granted FERC certificate for its $189 million Momentum expansion project. The pipeline wants to phase in and reduce the size of the expansion due to changes in the needs of two power generation customers in the Southeast.

The Momentum project originally was approved by FERC on Feb. 14, 2002. It will include the addition of 64 miles of 42- and 40-inch diameter looping pipeline in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia as well as 45,000 hp of new compression.

Transco is requesting authorization to reduce the overall size of the previously approved project from roughly 359,000 Dth/d to 323,000 Dth/d.

“As this project progressed, two of the original customers had to withdraw based on changing market conditions,” said Doug Whisenant, senior vice president of Williams’ natural gas pipeline business. “The phased in-service dates and revised scope simply reflect the needs of two new customers.”

Momentum includes new delivery points for Calpine Energy Services LP and GenPower Anderson LLC. Transco also agreed to provide 17 shippers with new firm transportation service under the project.

Construction on the first phase of the project for 269,000 Dth/d began in August 2002 and is scheduled to be in service by May 2003. The second phase for 54,000 Dth/d is expected to be in service by May 2004.
