NYC Leads Northeast Uprising; Other Regions Mildly Softer

The Big Apple was where the big prices were Monday. Transco’s Zone 6-New York City pool spiked as high as $18 and rose more than $2 on average to lead more modest gains at most other Northeast points as a new winter storm took aim at southern portions of the region. However, spreading cold in the rest of the U.S. gave little price support to the general market, which ranged from a few cents higher to down about 15 cents.

Still Frigid, But Northeast Prices Plunge; Rest of Market Gains

Apparently Wednesday’s Iroquois Zone 2 quote of $76 will stand for a while as the spot market’s price record, because Northeast quotes tumbled Thursday about as fast as they had skyrocketed the day before. Conversely, the rest of the market ranged from flat to up nearly half a dollar after having been softer the day before.

NGPL plans to run a sweeping pig Thursday in the Midcontinent Zone’s Segment 2 from Station 156 (Kiowa County, OK) to Station 801 (Carter County, OK). Eleven meters will be unavailable for scheduling on that gas day.

Effective with the start of Monday’s gas day, Texas Eastern was not accepting incremental IT nominations for delivery to Market Zone 3 (M-3). In addition, no due-shipper imbalance makeup gas was available in M-3. Affililate Algonquin restricted Monday all incremental forward-haul AIT and Authorized Overrun service anywhere on its system.

Citing a forecast of cold temperatures through the Thanksgiving weekend and into next week in Market Zone 3 (M-3), Texas Eastern said Tuesday that due to anticipated operating conditions and loads, it will restrict interruptible M-3 deliveries starting Wednesday until further notice. “The need for further restrictions will be evaluated as conditions unfold,” the pipeline said. Also effective with Wednesday’s gas day, no due-shipper gas will be allowed to be taken off the system.

Rockies Softness Runs Counter to Mostly Higher Prices

Numbers falling as low as the mid $0.40s in the Rockies and a flat Transco Zone 6-NYC belied an overall stronger cash market Tuesday. Excluding the Rockies and Transco citygate, gains ranged from about a nickel to about 20 cents, with those in the low to mid teens most common.

Tennessee reported completion of the Torrington Lateral project and is now accepting nominations at the Winsted and Torrington meters. The lateral originates in Massachusetts as a Zone 6 interconnect with Line 200 and go about 20 miles south to Torrington, CT.
