EnCana Corp. has filed a plan with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to add 1,200 natural gas wells in a 14,000 acre region of the Piceance Basin. The plan calls for up to 125 well pads and 1,240 gas wells.

New York Public Service Commission Chairman William Flynn wants the New York Mercantile Exchange to investigate the reasons for soaring natural gas futures prices in light of adequate gas storage levels and normal winter weather. Nymex suggests they need look no farther than the loss of the major gas marketers which has led to a decline in futures market liquidity.

Pemex Debt Offering to Fund Expanded E&P Program

Mexico’s oil and gas monopoly, Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), wants to launch one of the largest debt issues ever by any state-owned or private company in the country, announcing plans this week to issue 10-year peso-denominated debt for up to 20 billion pesos ($1.78 billion). Proceeds would fund a large capital expenditure program to boost declining reserves and increase oil and gas production.
