An independent proxy advisory firm has issued a report recommending that MarkWest Energy Partners LP’s unitholders approve a merger with Marathon Petroleum Corp.’s (MPC) master limited partnership (MLP), MPLX LP, saying current market factors make the deal an attractive one.

Spectra Lands Express-Platte Oil Pipelines for $1.49B

Houston-based Spectra Energy Corp. said Tuesday it has secured one of the three major pipeline systems that move western Canadian crude oil to refineries in the Rockies and Midwest, agreeing to purchase the entire ownership interest in the 1,717-mile Express-Platte Pipeline System. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2013.

MarkWest Sees ‘Explosive Growth’ in 2013

MarkWest Energy Partners is getting ready for “explosive growth” in the Northeast “in 2013 and beyond,” CEO Frank Semple said Thursday. Next year, natural gas liquids (NGL) processing in the Marcellus and Utica shales combined should increase to 4.8 Bcf/d from 2.7 Bcf/d to serve producer customers.
