Northwest reported experiencing a failure of the Unit #4compressor at its Soda Springs (ID) Station Wednesday morning dueto damaged rings and cylinders. Cause of the damage is beinginvestigated. Northwest said it was able to maintain scheduledquantities that day, but starting today capacity through SodaSprings will be limited to 445,000 Dth/d. This will not require anycuts in Primary Firm nominations, the pipeline said. It estimatedthe compressor will be back in service March 2.

Wyoming Interstate said a unit will be removed from service atthe Cheyenne WIC Compressor Station March 7 and 8. Capacity throughthe station will be reduced by 75 MMcf/d, but impact to serviceshould be minimal.

The electric unit at Reliant’s Buckley Compressor Station northof Shreveport, LA has shut down because of internal problems. Theoutage may last several weeks, a gas control staffer said; anupdate will be posted soon on the pipeline’s bulletin board.

Renamed Atlantic Alliance Ends Open Season

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a business unit of El Paso EnergyCorp., and CNG Transmission Corp., a subsidiary of ConsolidatedNatural Gas Co. said the Atlantic Alliance Project open seasonclosed Nov. 30. Tennessee and CNG are evaluating results and willannounce plans at a later date. To avoid confusion with theAlliance Pipeline, which is not affiliated with Tennessee’s andCNG’s project, the name of this phase of the project, and anyfuture phases, has been changed to the Atlantic Advantage Project.Atlantic Advantage Project proposes to move up to 750,000 Dth/dfrom Chicago and the Niagara Import Point to developing markets inthe Northeast. An El Paso spokesman said the company didn’t knowwhen it would be prepared to release open season results.

Unocal Corp’s Spirit Energy 76 unit said increased explorationand development activity in the second half of 1999 in its Gulf ofMexico Continental Shelf and onshore regions has generatedadditional crude oil and gas resources that will provide theplatform for higher production levels at the end of 1999 and into2000.

Southern Company named Anthony J. Topazi vice president of fuelservices for Southern Company Generation, the business unitresponsible for developing and operating all non-nuclear SouthernCompany generating plants in the Southeast. Topazi is currentlyvice president of the Birmingham division for Alabama Power,Southern Company’s electric operating company in the state. In hisnew position, he will be responsible for managing the company’snon-nuclear fuel business, including planning, procurement anddelivery of the system’s coal, oil and gas requirements. Topaziwill report to John F. Young, executive vice president of SouthernCompany Generation.
