El Paso Re-tests Market for Pipeline Capacity to Bahamas LNG Project

El Paso Corp. said it will hold another open season for capacity on its proposed 128-mile, 26-inch diameter Seafarer Pipeline System, which would transport about 750 MMcf/d of gas to Southern Florida from a proposed LNG import terminal in the Bahamas.

SGR Tests Market for Storage Header Extension

SGR Holdings LLC said it is holding an open season from Nov. 5 to Dec. 5 to test market interest in extending the Southern Pines Energy Center pipeline/storage header north to interconnect directly with Southern Natural Gas Co. and Tennessee Gas Pipeline in Mississippi. The 12 Bcf Southern Pines salt dome gas storage field, which already has a FERC certificate, is expected to begin providing high-deliverability storage services in 2005.

GTI Tests Small Gas Liquefiers for Vehicle Fuels, Peak Shaving, Remote Gas Recovery

The Gas Technology Institute (GTI), in collaboration with the Department of Energy and Brookhaven National Labs, successfully completed testing of a new small-scale natural gas liquefier that could be used to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) for vehicles, utility peak shaving applications, remote gas recovery, and liquefaction of renewable resources such as digester or landfill gas.

Initial Tests on New Panuke Well Could Revive EnCana Drilling

EnCana Corp. has apparently scored success with a new natural gas well test in its suspended Deep Panuke project offshore Nova Scotia and could drill a second shallow-water well by the end of October, according to the company’s senior vice president for the East Coast. However, El Paso Corp., which two years ago proposed a gas pipe from Nova Scotia into the U.S. Northeast, said it would delay its project until more discoveries are made.

PG&E Utility Complains Calpine-Lodi Storage Break CPUC Rules

In a case that tests the limits of how far California went in establishing third-party, non-utility natural gas storage, two of the state’s energy heavyweights — Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and Calpine Corp. — are going toe-to-toe over allegations that Calpine has “colluded” with a third-party storage operator, Lodi Gas Storage. PG&E’s utility wants state regulators to come down hard on both the merchant operators.

Sempra Energy Trading Tests Market for Proposed Michigan Storage Project

Sempra Energy Trading has filed for a permit with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to develop a natural gas storage facility in St. Clair. In conjunction with the permit application, the company also has launched an open season for the 27 Bcf facility, named Bluewater Gas Storage LLC, that will extend through June 30. The company expects commercial operation to begin in April 2004.
