Puget Sound Energy Sets Another Gas Record

The Pacific Northwest’s continued below-freezing temperatures pushed Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) to another record natural gas sendout Friday, surpassing one the utility set earlier in the week. PSE said natural gas demand hit 780,000 MMBtu on Friday, compared to 755,881 MMBtu last Tuesday.

SoCal Gas Sets Record in July Heat Wave Sendout

Sempra Energy’s Los Angeles-based Southern California Gas Co. utility reported Thursday that it set a record summer day sendout of 3.72 Bcf last July 24 when electric utilities throughout the state set all-time peak demand records. Natural gas is the primary fuel for electric generation plants in the state, and particularly in the SoCalGas territory.

Transportation Notes

Trunkline LNG said Friday it had completed inspections of the Lake Charles, LA terminal and would accept sendout nominations for Saturday. While the terminal was capable of accepting new shipments, LNG vessels were still unable to transit the Calcasieu Ship Channel and Industrial Canal due to debris and restrictions imposed by the Coast Guard and other government agencies, Trunkline said.

Sendout capacity at the Trunkline LNG facility near Lake Charles, LA is limited to 700 MMcf/d until further notice due to two vaporizers being taken out of service for unscheduled repairs, the company said Friday.

Distrigas of Massachusetts (DOMAC) has filed with the FederalEnergy Regulatory Commission to construct four new high-poweredvaporizers to deliver 280 MMBtu/d of regassified LNG to a new1,550 MW Mystic Station power plant to be built by Sithe Industriesin Everett, MA. (CP00-447).
