FERC OKs MoBay Storage Hub for AL

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a certificate of public convenience and necessity under Section 7 of the Natural Gas Act authorizing MoBay Storage Hub LLC, a subsidiary of Houston-based Falcon Gas Storage Co., to develop and operate the MoBay Storage Hub Project in Southern Alabama (see Daily GPI, Dec. 14, 2006).

FERC has approved the sale of a section of Columbia Gas Transmission pipeline and associated facilities in West Virginia and Kentucky to unaffiliated producer Columbia Natural Resources LLC (CNR) for an estimated $4.4 million. The agency also accepted a request to declare the facilities gathering in nature and exempt from FERC jurisdiction.

The British are Coming: UK’s National Grid to Acquire KeySpan

The United Kingdom’s National Grid will make major strides in its near-dominance of major utilities in the New York-New England section of the United States with its plan to acquire KeySpan Corp., rumored last week and announced early Monday. National Grid will pay $42 per share in cash in a transaction valued at approximately $7.3 billion, with an enterprise value of $11.8 billion. The boards of both companies unanimously approved the acquisition.

Apache Swaps Egyptian Assets for Permian Basin Fields

Apache Corp. and Amerada Hess Corp. have agreed to a land swap, with Apache selling its 55% interest in a deepwater section off of Egypt’s coast for $413 million and Hess selling eight fields in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico for $404 million.
