Sonat Settlement, South Georgia Plan Approved

FERC yesterday approved the settlement agreement that resolvesall of the outstanding issues in Southern Natural Gas Section 4rate case. It puts in place a cost-of-service reduction of $42million, a 12% return on equity and allows Sonat to fold the SouthGeorgia Natural Gas pipeline into its own operations.

El Paso Returns Fire On Complaint Over Topock Access

Several producers who blasted El Paso Natural Gas last week in aSection 5 complaint at FERC got an earful right back from thepipeline yesterday. El Paso wasted no time in filing an answer, andin an interview with NGI, A.W. “Al” Clark, El Paso’s vice presidentof marketing and operations control, said this is just another casein which producers are attempting to hide behind FERC because theyare afraid of competition.

Long Beach Jockeys for Central Spot in CA Energy Market

Natural gas is one of the factors lurking behind the scenes ofLong Beach’s continuing quest to buy a section of SouthernCalifornia Edison Co.’s power distribution system within its cityborders. The city recently rejected an offer by Edison that wouldhave ended the municipalization campaign. At least part of thereason for the city’s resolve is the likelihood it will be a majorend-point for large new gas loads. But that appears to be a smallpart of a much larger scheme behind the city’s recent activities.
