NiSource Midstream Services LLC’s Big Pine Gathering System in the heart of the Marcellus Shale has begun serving XTO Energy Inc. under a long-term agreement. The 57-mile, 20- and 24-inch diameter system stretches into Pennsylvania’s Allegheny, Butler, Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties and interconnects to the Columbia Gas Transmission system, as well as Texas Eastern Transmission and Dominion Transmission. The system is anchored by XTO; a separate gathering agreement was recently signed with PennEnergy.

Colorado Operators Shutter 50 Gas Wells Facing Fire Threats

As the Pine Ridge fire in Colorado expanded Friday, up to 50 natural gas wells were shut in by operators along the Western Slope in the Piceance Basin. In one case, wells were shuttered before operators were asked to do so by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), according to the Colorado Oil and Gas Association (COGA).

Suncor Energy has agreed to sell some natural gas properties in Alberta to an undisclosed buyer for about C$235 million. The properties, known as Rosevear and Pine Creek, are in the Edson/Whitecourt area west of Edmonton, AB. Current production is 20.5 MMcf/d of natural gas and 540 b/d of liquids. The sale has an effective date of Jan. 1, 2010 and is expected to close in April. Still to be sold are some gas properties in Western Canada and the U.S. Rockies, all Trinidad and Tobago assets, and some noncore North Sea assets,which includes assets in The Netherlands. Suncor, which is focusing mostly on its oilsands production in Canada, said it has reached agreement to sell assets worth about C$1.54 billion.

Due to high acid gas volumes at the inlet of Pine River Gas Plant impacting some shippers’ firm entitlement/production, Westcoast reduced the plant’s acid gas capacity volume Thursday morning to about 91.4 MMcf/d until further notice.
