Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. is holding a binding open season to obtain commitments for firm capacity on its proposed Northeast ConneXion-New England expansion project. The open season began Friday (Oct. 15) and will conclude on Dec. 15.

Transportation Notes

Citing recent low temperatures and production losses in northeast British Columbia, Westcoast said Tuesday it was “experiencing extremely low linepack conditions.” In order to protect operational integrity, the pipeline said shippers’ account availabilities at all receipt points would be limited to their current production levels effective immediately. Account availabilities will be adjusted as production levels increase or decrease, Westcoast said. Kern River reported Tuesday afternoon being informed that due to problems with the Jonah Field’s supply of gas to the Opal Plant, cuts were likely in that day’s 4th nominations cycle. Shippers were urged to call suppliers to see if a supply realignment was necessary.

The combination Phase III expansion of the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline and Algonquin Gas Transmission’s HubLine extension went into service last week, starting deliveries of Nova Scotia gas to the Boston area and southeastern Massachusetts.

Mild Cold-Induced Rally Expected to Be Brief

It was mild, but a rally nonetheless. With a new spate of cold weather approaching the Midwest and Northeast, prices ranged from flat to up about 15 cents Tuesday. Not counting the Southwest basins, the West saw most of the flat to barely higher or lower numbers.

Moderate Show of Price Strength Not Expected to Last

Flat to moderately lower Northeast/Appalachian numbers Wednesday ran against the grain of overall firmer spot prices in which gains were mostly small and quotes ranged from flat to more than 30 cents higher. Virtually all of the increases above a dime occurred at Rockies, Pacific Northwest and Northern California points, which are feeling a touch of winter from a Pacific storm.

Tropical Storm Erika Claims At Least 135 MMcf/d Friday

Not to be outdone by the widespread blackouts experienced in the Northeast, Texas was bracing for what could become Hurricane Erika touching down in Brownsville, TX. At presstime Friday evening, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) expected Tropical Storm Erika to make landfall in South Texas and Northeastern Mexico as a hurricane.
