Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. is holding a binding open season to obtain commitments for firm capacity on its proposed Northeast ConneXion-New England expansion project. The open season began Friday (Oct. 15) and will conclude on Dec. 15.

The proposed project would deliver 100,000 Dth/d of natural gas on Tennessee’s system to the New England region from Gulf Coast supply sources, the El Paso pipeline said. Tennessee proposes to install additional compression and pipeline looping on its 200 Line located on the north end of the pipeline’s 14,200-mile system.

The 200 Line splits off from the Tennessee’s 300 Line at the Mercer Compressor Station in Mercer, PA, and continues through New York and up into New England, an El Paso spokesman said.

The amount of the compression and looping added would depend on the shipper response to the two-month open season, he noted.

Pending approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Tennessee said the project would begin service in November 2007. Tennessee is expected to file a project application at FERC in early 2005, according to the spokesman.

For further information, shippers were advised to contact Joe Wyzik at (713) 420-4338 or joe.wyzik@elpaso.com, or Jim Scabareti at (617) 217-2115 or jim.scabareti@elpaso.com.

Tennessee is one of five interstate pipelines owned by El Paso. It stretches from the Mexican border to Canada, serving markets in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, including major metropolitan centers in Chicago, New York and Boston.
