As it had warned might be necessary (see Daily GPI, Oct. 29), Sonat issued an OFO Type 6 that took effect Saturday until further notice. Tiered penalties ranging from $1/Dth to $15/Dth were to be applied for positive daily imbalances exceeding 200 dekatherms or a 2% tolerance. Sonat said it would be force balancing during the OFO.

AccuWeather.com Warns of Early Winter Potential

It might be smart to get out the heating blankets a little early this winter, according to AccuWeather.com meteorologists, who are predicting winter could get an early start in the Great Plains, Great Lakes and Northeast as below-normal temperatures are forecasted for the period October through December. The State College, PA-based forecasting agency predicted the potential early start to winter in its latest 30 to 90-day forecast.

Bay State Completely Shuts Down IT Service for Next Winter

After emerging from what might be called the winter of discontent because of record high gas prices and demand, Bay State Gas Co. said it has decided to protect itself and its firm customers from any unexpected gas use next winter by cutting off service to interruptible (IT) customers from December 2004 through March 2005. However, some IT customers say it’s a ploy to get them to sign up for more expensive firm delivery service.

Vintage May Sell Canadian Assets, Focus U.S., Overseas

Tulsa, OK-based Vintage Petroleum announced last week that it might sell its Canadian reserves and exploration and production operations, which have provided disappointing returns. Vintage purchased the assets in 2001 through its acquisition of 100% of Genesis Exploration Ltd. The Canadian proved reserves at year-end 2003 represented about 3% its total proved reserves or about 13 MMboe.

Transportation Notes

Dominion activated an OFO Friday for customers behind six New York utilities downstream of its Boom and Stateline facilities, as it had cautioned might be necessary in an OFO Advisory issued Thursday (see Daily GPI, Jan. 9). No OFO was issued for several Mid-Atlantic utilities that had been listed in a separate OFO Advisory.
