ICE Strengthens CBOT Bid Through Deal With CBOE

One week after it appeared that all hope might have been lost in its bid to acquire the Chicago Board of Trade, Atlanta-based IntercontinentalExchange Inc. (ICE) on Wednesday announced it has sweetened the deal by reaching an agreement with the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), which could help settle a long-running legal dispute between the options trading exchange and cross-town rival CBOT.

Transportation Notes

After cautioning Tuesday that it might need to do so soon, Florida Gas Transmission followed up by issuing an Overage Alert Day for market-area customers Wednesday, noting forecasts of warmer weather in central Florida and low linepack. The tolerance for negative daily imbalances was set at 25%. The pipeline said it would not interrupt any previously scheduled market-area ITS-1 service for Wednesday’s gas day.

CA LNG Proponents Unsure of New State Maritime Council

After two weeks, none of California’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) proponents or regulators are clear on what, if any, impact a new California Maritime Security Council might have on the review process for up to four proposed LNG receiving terminals along the Southern California coast. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created the council with an executive order issued Oct. 12, and so far no one among the LNG crowd has commented much.

Fearing that the protections for Florida offered in the Senate’s Lease Sale 181 bill might be gutted if merged with the House’s more expansive bill for drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) said he will offer an amendment during debate on the Lease 181 bill this week that will ask senators to reject up-front the competing House offshore bill.
