With maximum sustained winds of 165 mph, Rita was classified as a Category Five storm Wednesday afternoon, the most dangerous hurricane category.

Modest Eastern Rallies Not Matched in the West
Predictions of a late-winter storm expected to bring snow and sleet (“perhaps a lot in some locations,” according to The Weather Channel) to eastern parts of the South Thursday helped to generate small rallies at most eastern points Wednesday. Maritimes Clears the Way for Halifax Route
Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline has begun clearing theHalifax Lateral pipeline route. The clearing contractor began workon Feb. 29 in various locations along the lateral route that havereceived National Energy Board approval. Clearing is scheduled tobe complete in April.
