Xcel Energy’s 550 MW Unit 1 at its Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Minnesota began a planned four- to six-week refueling outage late last Friday, meaning the multi-state utility holding company will be drawing on added supplies from its other generation sources or purchasing more power in the wholesale market. The refueling comes after more than 500 days of continuous operation of the unit, Xcel said. The unit is one of two at the 1,100 MW plant in Red Wing, MN. One of the reactors typically is refueled every 18 months.

The 945-foot Clean Force liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker arrived last Wednesday morning at the Freeport LNG receiving terminal on Quintana Island in Brazoria County, TX. It is the first vessel to come to the terminal to pick up LNG for re-export rather than deliver a cargo.

HIOS Might Abandon Some Compression
High Island Offshore System LLC (HIOS) said Monday it might seek to abandon compression facilities on its system to reduce the level of its firm certificated capacity. The notification on the company’s website follows the conclusion of an open season that drew no interest.

AGL Subsidiary Reaches Tentative Deal on Louisiana Storage Expansion
Following a dispute lasting more than three years with the state of Louisiana, AGL Resources subsidiary Jefferson Island Storage & Hub LLC (JISH) has negotiated a tentative agreement with the state, which if approved would resolve the pending lawsuit between the parties over a disputed Lake Peigneur mineral lease that would allow the company to expand its existing natural gas storage facility.

Enterprise Resumes Some HIOS Service
Enterprise Product Partners LP’s High Island Offshore System LLC (HIOS) last Thursday was able to accept nominations and “resume some level of service” from all receipt locations to all delivery points by bypassing a Gulf of Mexico (GOM) compressor station damaged by a recent fire, the company said.
