Occidental Grows Rights Near Elk Hills

Occidental Petroleum Corp. has purchased from Chevron deepexploration rights on 19,834 acres of land adjacent to its ElkHills holdings. Called the Buena Vista field, the Kern County, CA,property is seen by Oxy and some other producers as having hugepotential oil and gas reserves. Terms of the transaction were notdisclosed.

Midcoast Grows Pipeline Ownership 41%

Midcoast Energy Resources Inc. plans to acquire Kansas PipelineCo. (KPC), MarGasCo Partnership (MarGasCo) and other relatedentities. The $190 million deal includes the Kansas Pipelinesystem, which provides gas service to the Wichita and Kansas Citymetropolitan markets. The addition of the KPC system represents a41% increase in the total miles of pipeline owned by Midcoast.

Infinity Inc., the largest oilfield services company in easternKansas and northeastern Oklahoma, and an emerging independent oiland gas producer, acquired a 100% working interest in an additional4,775 acres in Wyoming’s Green River Basin. The new acreage isadjacent to the recently announced property acquired by Infinityand gives the company an interest in a total of 20,595 gross acres.

Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. announced it enteredinto a letter of intent to purchase Conoco’s 50% interest in theJameson processing plant and an associated 2,600-mile West Texasgas gathering system for an undisclosed sum. The Permian Basinplant and facilities currently are owned evenly by Conoco andMitchell.
