Portland, OR-based NW Natural said Monday that it has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin providing interstate storage services to customers throughout the region using its underground storage facilities located near Mist, OR.

FERC yesterday awarded Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) a certificate to incrementally expand its existing 1.7 Bcf/d natural gas transportation system to 2.1 Bcf/d.

The Broward County (FL) Commission last week gave the green light to a proposal that would impose an 11-month moratorium on the construction of new power plants in the county, but it remains unclear whether the temporary ban will face a challenge in the courts. Dennis Myers, a spokesperson for the commission, told NGI that the panel signed off on the moratorium by a vote of 8-0 in favor, with one commissioner abstaining.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in a 3-0 vote last Thursday gave the green light to a settlement between FirstEnergy Corp., GPU Inc. and several parties in their pending merger case that will, among other things, allow GPU to defer its wholesale power losses from the start of this year through 2005 and carry those losses on its books through 2010.

Trailblazer Pipeline received a final green light from FERC last week to add 324 MMcf/d of firm capacity to its existing pipeline system in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. The expansion will bring the pipe’s total firm capacity to about 816 MMcf/d in July 2002. However, the Commission denied Trailblazer’s request to modify its right of first refusal process and rejected the pipeline company’s related pro forma tariff sheets. It accepted the incremental rate design of the project, however.
