SCANA Energy Raises Georgia Gas Market Share to 30%
SCANA Energy announced last week that it has closed on the acquisition of 50,000 retail natural gas customers formerly served by Energy America in Georgia’s deregulated natural gas market. The company also reported that the Georgia Public Service Commission voted to retain SCANA Energy as the state’s sole regulated natural gas provider, extending the two-year term of SCANA Energy’s Regulated Division for at least another year, through August 2005.

Duke Energy made the surprise announcement last Tuesday that Paul M. Anderson, former CEO of PanEnergy and more recently the Australian firm BHP Billiton, will take over from Duke’s retiring Chairman Richard B. Priory as chairman and CEO of the company, effective Nov. 1, 2003.

CenterPoint (formerly Reliant) issued an Operational Alert to notify all shippers and pool managers that with storage levels nearing maximum capacity, as of Thursday’s gas day they must avoid long imbalances. Otherwise, “such imbalances can exacerbate [CenterPoint’s] current operational problems and may result in the future assessment of Excess Contract Quantities penalties or the issuance of OFOs.”
Atmos Rate Hike in Amarillo Approved
Atmos Energy Corp.’s request for an overall rate increase for its 68,000 natural gas customers in Amarillo, TX, was approved this week. Atmos, which formerly operated as Energas Co. in Amarillo, had not filed for a rate increase since 1999.
